Book Review: Deape Woods

Deape Woods is truly one of a kind! (I have to give a disclaimer—I know the author personally from church.) But when I first heard about Deape Woods, it was just a book my friend wrote. Truthfully, I was nervous about the subject matter and didn’t think I would even read her book, as I’m not someone who appreciates the horror genre. But I quickly found that Deape Woods is beyond petty gore and shocking violence. It is safe for teen readers and offers thrills as well as hope.

This novel follows the story of a girl whose convictions are tested by her strange experiences. It’s something everyone can relate to! Prudence calls her work a “vitamin in a cookie,” an entertaining story containing some profound truths. It draws attention to an often ignored player in the game of life. This book demonstrates that, even if we don’t acknowledge demonic forces, they can still afflict us. Prudence also provides a possibility of victory in the battle against this nasty, manipulative foe. (No spoilers here!)

Even if you don’t believe in the unseen world, this entertaining novel is a thrill and most definitely worth the read. If nothing else, purchase it when you’re in the mood for a spooky tale!
